These images are from the 2003 World Bodypainting Championships, Austria. I went along to photo document the festival and research the event for a script I was writing for an arts documentary. I ended up with around 300 images of amazing artworks, in the flesh. I held a documentary photography exhibition in Byron Bay, Australia, in 2004 with 30 shots. I was impressed with the ability of artists to produce masterpieces covering 22 square feet of 'canvas' (the human hide) in a mere five hours. I was most interested in the human expression and carnivale atmosphere of this insanely fun event, which was very serious business for the artists and models.
